The Australasian Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ASTSS) and Phoenix Australia - Centre for Posttraumatic Mental Health invite abstract submissions for the 2027 Australasian Conference on Traumatic Stress (ACOTS) that are aligned with the theme - Rethinking and Navigating Trauma in a Complex World. 

By bringing together research, policy, lived experience and practice under this theme, ACOTS 2027 will explore how trauma is understood and navigated in an ever-complex and interconnected world. Through the sharing of emerging evidence, innovative ideas and diverse perspectives, the conference will examine the many factors that shape trauma and recovery, and help advance the implementation of knowledge into meaningful action and real-world impact. 

To complete the submission successfully, you will need the following information: 

Select Presentation Type

• Individual Presentation: 12 minutes + 3 minutes questions
• Symposium: 45 minutes, including questions; 4-5 speakers 
  • Each presenter within a symposium will be required to make their own abstract submission via the portal. The relevant portal submissions will then be linked using the symposium title entered. 
• Poster (non-presenting)
• Flash Talks: 3 minutes + 2 minutes questions 
• Panel: 45 minutes, including questions; 4-5 speakers, including your nominated Chair
• Masterclass or Workshop: Interactive; 45 or 90 minutes options; 1 to 2 presenters
• Open Ground: For the first time, we are inviting presenters to pitch a creative, participatory or experimental presentation format, rather than one of the above prescribed formats.

• Biography for each presenter: Maximum 50 words per presenter

Presentation Title and Abstract

• Abstract length: Maximum 200 - 300 words 
• No subheadings are required for abstracts, but please ensure you address the aims, methods, results and discussion of your study
• Accepted abstracts submitted for presentation will be published in the Conference program exactly as submitted. All submissions should be checked for accuracy and misspelling prior to submission. 
• For those submitting as part of a Symposium, ensure you use the exact presentation title as other presenters in your symposium
• For those submitting a Masterclass or Workshop, you will also need to provide learning objectives and a brief summary (150-200 words) of the evidence-base (including citations)
